All corporations today have internet access
as part of their communications services. By leveraging on this data
network access, corporations can also carry their international voice
between offices thereby saving all IDD charges between the offices. Yes,
no more per minute charges and for unlimited calling period. VOIP has been in existence for many years but its implementation in
the past have faced many difficulties and problems. There are 2 main
reasons for this:
- Internet
network performance in the Asian region has been very poor in the
past. Data packets originated from Asia would typically traverse
through
the US before arriving in another location in Asia. Today, many
Asian ISPs have peering arrangements with each other and this has
helped
the internet performance to improve tremendously creating the environment
for successful VOIP implementation.
- VOIP
equipment has seen vast improvement in the recent years. Codecs have
improved to allow better
quality calls
and at the same time reducing the bandwidth required per call.
